Cold Wave & Beast Crisis Guide (Season 2)
Two Events, One Survival Test
Cold Wave and Beast Crisis are Season 2's mandatory survival events. Cold Wave drops server-wide temperatures and threatens to push your base below the -20C lockout threshold. Beast Crisis sends waves of enemies to destroy your Alliance Furnace — one of your most important heat sources. When they happen simultaneously, unprepared alliances face cascading failures that can knock them out of competition for days.
These events are not optional side content. They are direct threats to your ability to play the game.
Cold Wave drops the temperature. Beast Crisis destroys your heat source. Lose the Alliance Furnace during a Cold Wave and your entire alliance can fall below -20C simultaneously. Below -20C, you cannot rally, cannot teleport, and cannot fight back. This is the worst-case scenario in Season 2 — a cascading lockout that takes days to recover from. Everything in this guide exists to prevent it.
Cold Wave Alert
What It Is
Cold Wave is a periodic server-wide event that sharply drops the temperature across the entire map. Every player on the server is affected. The temperature penalty is significant enough to push players with inadequate heat sources below the -20C threshold.
When It Happens
Cold Waves occur on a schedule throughout Season 2. They are announced in advance — you will receive a Cold Wave Alert before the temperature drops. This warning window is your preparation time. Do not waste it.
What the Temperature Drop Means
The difference between survival and lockout comes down to preparation done before the Cold Wave hits. You cannot react your way out of a Cold Wave after it starts. Your furnace level and heat stacking must already be sufficient.
Cold Wave Preparation
Start this checklist when you see the Cold Wave Alert:
- Check your coal reserves — ensure at least 24 hours of burn time, preferably 48
- Verify Alliance Furnace proximity — if your base is outside the Alliance Furnace radius, teleport closer immediately
- Top off your High-Heat Furnace fuel — do not enter a Cold Wave with low coal
- Confirm captured cities near your hive are still held — losing a city's heat contribution during a Cold Wave compounds the temperature drop
- Coordinate with your alliance — everyone needs to be aware and prepared
- Stage your strongest squads for Beast Crisis — Cold Waves and Beast Crisis often coincide
The number one preventable cause of Cold Wave lockout is running out of coal. Your furnace produces zero heat without fuel. Stockpile coal aggressively before every Cold Wave. If you enter the event with a full coal reserve, your furnace handles the heavy lifting. If you enter with an empty reserve, no amount of alliance coordination saves you.
Surviving During a Cold Wave
Once the Cold Wave is active:
- Do not teleport away from heat sources — stay within Alliance Furnace range
- Monitor your temperature — if it approaches -20C, you need emergency heat from any available source
- Reduce unnecessary troop movements — focus on defence and heat maintenance, not offence
- Defend the Alliance Furnace — if Beast Crisis triggers during the Cold Wave, the furnace is your lifeline
- Help alliance members who are struggling — a locked-out member cannot contribute to Beast Crisis defence, which weakens everyone
Beast Crisis
What It Is
Beast Crisis is a wave-based defence event where enemies attack your Alliance Furnace. The waves escalate in difficulty. If the furnace falls, every alliance member within its radius loses a critical heat source.
Why It Matters
The Alliance Furnace provides a large temperature bonus to all nearby alliance members. Losing it means:
- Immediate temperature drop for every member in range
- During a Cold Wave, this drop can push multiple members below -20C
- Rebuilding or recovering the furnace takes time — time during which your alliance is exposed
- Members who fall below -20C cannot contribute to recovery efforts, creating a vicious cycle
Beast Crisis Defence Strategy
Before the Event
- Garrison the Alliance Furnace before it starts — do not wait for the first wave to arrive
- Assign roles — designate primary defenders, backup reinforcements, and scouts
- Bring your strongest squads — this is not the time for farming compositions
- Have both squads ready if you have two strong ones — you may need to rotate as units take losses
- Ensure coal and resources are stocked — you cannot resupply mid-event easily
During the Event
- Focus fire on the current wave — do not split attention between multiple threats
- Rotate damaged squads out and fresh squads in — stagger reinforcements to maintain a continuous garrison
- Communicate losses in real time — if the garrison is weakening, alliance members need to know immediately
- Do not pull garrison troops for other purposes — the Alliance Furnace is the priority above everything else during Beast Crisis
- Heal troops between waves if possible — use speed-ups to get wounded troops back into the fight
Beast Crisis is not a casual event you can half-attend. Losing the Alliance Furnace during a Cold Wave can lock out your entire alliance. Garrison with your strongest squads, coordinate rotations, and treat every wave like a real enemy attack. The alliances that take Beast Crisis seriously never experience the cascade lockout. The ones that do not take it seriously learn the hard way.
When Both Events Overlap
The worst-case scenario in Season 2 is a Cold Wave and Beast Crisis happening simultaneously. This combination is by design — the game tests whether your alliance can defend its heat source while the map temperature is already dropping.
Why the Overlap Is Dangerous
- Cold Wave has already reduced your temperature margin
- Losing the Alliance Furnace during this window removes a critical heat buffer
- Members who were barely above -20C from the Cold Wave alone immediately drop below threshold
- Locked-out members cannot reinforce the furnace defence, weakening the garrison
- The garrison weakens, increasing the chance of losing the furnace, which locks out more members
- This is the cascade failure — each loss feeds the next
How to Survive the Overlap
- Prepare for Cold Wave first — coal reserves full, furnace fuelled, base positioned near Alliance Furnace
- Pre-garrison for Beast Crisis — strongest squads in position before the first wave, not after
- All alliance members online and communicating — this is an all-hands event
- Prioritise furnace defence over everything else — do not run rallies, do not attack cities, do not gather. Defend the furnace
- Have emergency heat sources ready — any secondary heat contributions (captured cities, research bonuses) provide critical margin
Furnace Management During Events
Your High-Heat Furnace is your personal safety net. During Cold Wave and Beast Crisis, furnace management becomes minute-by-minute.

Alliance Coordination for Both Events
Communication Requirements
- Announce Cold Wave Alerts immediately — every member needs maximum preparation time
- Beast Crisis garrison roster posted in advance — who is defending, who is on standby, who is reinforcing
- Real-time updates during events — furnace health, garrison status, member temperature readings
- Post-event debrief — what worked, what nearly failed, what to change for next time
Role Assignments
Common Cold Wave and Beast Crisis Mistakes
- Not preparing before the Cold Wave Alert — if your furnace is underlevelled when the alert comes, it is already too late to upgrade in time
- Running out of coal during a Cold Wave — the single most preventable disaster in Season 2. Stockpile aggressively
- Sitting outside Alliance Furnace range — free heat you are missing because you did not teleport. Fix this before every Cold Wave
- Treating Beast Crisis casually — it is not a background event. Losing the Alliance Furnace cascades into lockouts that take days to recover from
- Not garrisoning before the first wave — reactive defence is always worse than proactive defence. Be in position before Beast Crisis starts
- Splitting forces during Beast Crisis — do not run rallies, gather, or attack while the furnace is under assault. All hands on furnace defence
- Ignoring locked-out alliance members — members below -20C cannot help themselves. The alliance needs to help them recover or accept losing their contribution
- No post-event review — Cold Waves and Beast Crises repeat. If you barely survived this one without learning why, the next one will be worse
- Underestimating late Beast Crisis waves — early waves are easy. Alliances that coast through the first few waves and then get overwhelmed by late waves lose everything
- Not stacking heat sources — relying on just your personal furnace is not enough during Cold Waves. You need alliance furnace proximity, captured cities, and research bonuses all contributing
