Waterfall Training (Season 2)
Waterfall Training in Season 2
By Season 2, T10 troops should be standard for most competitive players. Your barracks are at higher levels, Alliance Duel research multipliers are stronger, and the waterfall chain from Season 1 remains the core Day 5 strategy. The mechanics have not changed, but Season 2 adds resource pressure that makes the saving discipline harder.
For the full explanation of how waterfall training works, see the Waterfall Training Guide.
Waterfall training is still a requirement, not an option. The point difference between waterfall and direct training continues to grow as Alliance Duel research multipliers increase. The challenge in Season 2 is not the waterfall itself — it is saving speedups when furnace upgrades, coal management, and Rare Soil capture all demand those same resources.
What Changes in Season 2
T10 Is Now Standard
In Season 1, T10 was a late unlock requiring Special Forces research and Valor Badges. By Season 2:
- Most competitive players have T10 unlocked — the waterfall chain should end at T10
- T10 promotions earn the most points per step — this is your highest-value endpoint
- If you still do not have T10, it is urgent to complete Special Forces research. Every VS week without T10 waterfall is lost points
Higher Alliance Duel Research Multipliers
Two seasons of Alliance Duel research investment mean higher point multipliers:
- Multipliers can reach 200%+ by Season 2 — each promotion step earns more than double its base value
- This compounds with waterfall training — more promotion steps multiplied by higher multipliers creates exponential point growth
- Investing in Alliance Duel research remains a top priority — the compounding effect is enormous
Speedup Saving Is Harder
Season 2's resource demands make the Day 5 saving discipline more challenging:
- Furnace upgrades want your speedups — resist the temptation during VS weeks
- Coal gathering and city capture rallies use march slots that could support troop training
- The solution is calendar planning — decide at the start of each week whether it is a VS week or a furnace week
T10 Training Costs Are Higher
T10 troops require more resources per unit than lower tiers:
- Training costs compete with coal gathering for your economy
- Healing costs after Day 6 combat are expensive at T10 — factor this into your weekly resource planning
- Stockpile training resources throughout the week — do not wait until Friday to realise you cannot afford to train
Recommended Season 2 Setups
Standard T10 Waterfall (4 Barracks)
This should be the default setup for all Season 2 players with T10 unlocked.
Weekly routine: Train T6 troops all week in all barracks. On Day 5: T6 → T7 → T8 → T9 → T10 through the chain. Four promotion steps with the highest-tier endpoint.
Extended T10 Waterfall (Longer Chain)
If you want to maximise points and have upgraded a 5th barracks or restructured your stagger:
Weekly routine: Train T5 troops all week. On Day 5: T5 → T6 → T7 → T9 → T10. Note the jump from T7 to T9. Still 4 promotion steps but with a cheaper weekly training cost from starting at T5.
For Players Without T10 Yet
If T10 is still locked, use the Season 1 T9 waterfall setup while urgently completing Special Forces research:
If you do not have T10 unlocked by Season 2, you are falling behind every week. The point difference between a T9 chain and a T10 chain is significant, and it compounds with Alliance Duel research multipliers. Complete Special Forces research and accumulate Valor Badges as a top priority. Every VS week without T10 is a permanent point deficit.
Arms Race in Season 2
Arms Race continues with its Unit Training scoring phase that uses the same waterfall strategy:
- Stockpile low-tier troops before the Unit Training phase — same as Day 5 preparation
- Promote through the chain during the scoring window — identical waterfall technique
- Track the Arms Race schedule separately from VS — you may need separate stockpiles
- Season 2 events may overlap with Arms Race timing — plan ahead
Season 2 Weekly Routine
Monday–Thursday:
- Train T5 or T6 troops continuously in all barracks (depending on your waterfall setup)
- Save all training and general speedups for Day 5
- Do not use speedups on furnace upgrades during VS weeks — push furnace to non-VS weeks
- Gather coal and manage temperature alongside training
- Monitor Arms Race schedule for overlap
Friday (Day 5 — Total Mobilisation):
- Run the full waterfall chain — T6 → T7 → T8 → T9 → T10
- Use all saved speedups
- Promote reserves to T10 before Day 6 combat
Saturday (Day 6 — Enemy Buster):
- Your army should be at full T10 strength
- After losses, immediately begin restocking low-tier troops for next week
- Factor healing costs into your resource budget
Sunday:
- Resume T5/T6 training
- Start stacking radar missions for Monday
- Assess whether next week is a VS focus week or a furnace focus week
Common Season 2 Mistakes
- Using speedups on furnace during VS week — the single most common Season 2-specific mistake. Discipline your speedup allocation by week
- Not having T10 unlocked — every week without T10 waterfall is permanent lost points. Unlock it urgently
- Rushing all barracks to Level 30 — staggered barracks are still more valuable for waterfall than having all barracks at T10
- Neglecting Alliance Duel research — the multiplier compounds with waterfall. Two seasons of research investment should put you at 200%+
- Not adjusting for T10 training costs — T10 troops cost more resources. Budget for both training and coal/furnace needs
- Forgetting to promote before Day 6 — your troops should be at T10 for combat. Run the waterfall before Saturday
- Ignoring Arms Race timing — waterfall works for Arms Race too. Track the schedule and stockpile accordingly
