Champion Duel Guide — End-of-Season PvP Tournament
What Is the Champion Duel?
Champion Duel is a bracket-style PvP tournament that unlocks during the celebration period after a season ends — the gap between one season and the next. Commanders across multiple warzones compete in a series of 1-on-1 duels to crown a single champion, with rewards paid out at every stage based on how far you advance.
Crucially, Champion Duel combat is virtual: fights use a saved troop formation and do not cost you any troops from your base. This makes it one of the lowest-risk competitive events in the game — you can enter and compete without losing your army.
In-game, the event text reads: "When the chapter ends (reached or not), Champion Duel will be unlocked. Commanders may engage in the event 00:00 Monday Game Time the coming week." It is part of the same end-of-season bundle as the Trade Fair, Alliance Duel and Business Giant.
Does It Happen Every Season?
Yes. Champion Duel is a recurring event that runs during the season celebration / off-season period after every season — it has featured in the Season 3, Season 4 and Season 5 celebration line-ups, and the in-game unlock condition ("when the chapter ends") is generic to every chapter, not specific to Season 1.
So while you are seeing it now at the end of Season 1, you can expect it again at the end of Season 2 and beyond. The format is consistent between seasons.
Event Structure
Champion Duel runs across a single week, split into two stages.
Sign-Up Phase (Monday–Wednesday)
Qualifier Competition (Thursday)
Championship Competition (Friday–Sunday)
The Top 8 fight a knockout bracket. Each round begins at 12:00 Game Time:
- Round of Top 4 — Friday
- Semi-finals — Saturday
- Finals — Sunday
Multiple rounds of combat run in each stage, and the commander with more victories advances. Formations can be changed with a 5-minute cooldown but are locked 15 minutes before each Championship match.
During the event, if you enhance a hero, level up, unlock a skill, advance a tech, or upgrade a structure, the improvement does not automatically apply to your duel team. You must return to "My Troop Formation" and re-save for the change to take effect on your next match. Forgetting this is the most common way players field a weaker team than they actually have.
Combat Rules That Matter
- No troop losses — duels are virtual; your real army is never consumed. (Community guides describe the fights as 3v3 rally combat similar to Apex Arena — confirm in-game for your version.)
- Rally-attack and base-defense bonuses are excluded during the event. Do not count on your rally-leader or garrison buffs.
- All combat-related techs still work — your Tech Center / combat research does apply.
- Higher-tier troops perform better — bring your strongest saved formation.
Prediction Betting (Black Market Tie-In)
The Champion Duel runs alongside the Black Market celebration shop. Beyond fighting, you can predict match winners to earn currency:
- Place predictions on duels each day
- Correct predictions pay out a multiplier (community reports roughly 2x–5x depending on match difficulty), and you keep your stake either way
- Winnings are spent in the Black Market on that period's celebration rewards
This means even players who don't place highly can profit from the event by predicting well — it is not only for the top fighters. (Exact bet sizes and multipliers vary by version — confirm in-game.)
Rewards
- Qualifier: a reward is earned for each victory; unclaimed rewards are mailed after the event ends.
- Championship: every participating commander receives rewards based on final ranking (Top 8 / Top 4 / runner-up / champion), mailed after the event.
- Cosmetics: the top placements earn exclusive avatar frames, chat bubbles and emotes (e.g. the champion's "King's Arrival" emote and "Royal Command" chat bubble).
How to Do Well
- Sign up early (Mon–Wed) — there is no downside; you keep full use of your troops.
- Field your true best team — re-save your formation in "My Troop Formation" after every upgrade during the event.
- Respect the format lock windows — 5 minutes (Qualifier) / 15 minutes (Championship) before each match, formations lock.
- Manage your 3-loss budget in the Qualifier — you can afford some losses, but not many; aim for consistent wins to bank victories.
- Predict every day — free, low-risk currency for the Black Market even if you're knocked out.
- Don't rely on rally/defense buffs — they're excluded; win on raw formation strength and combat tech.
