Overlord Guide: Gorilla & Skybreaker — Unlock, Squad Use & What to Save

Heroes · 2026-08-11

What the Gorilla Overlord Is

The Gorilla Overlord is the first of the game's two Overlords (the second is the Skybreaker). An Overlord is a special unit that joins one of your combat squads and is strengthened on its own track — a Bond Rating, a Promotion (title/star) system, and its own Skills — separate from your regular heroes.

You don't summon it. You rescue and heal it through a short radar questline, build its Bond Rating with team training, and once the bond is high enough it can be added to a squad and fight alongside your heroes.

When Do You Get It?

It arrives around the end of Season 2 / start of Season 3. It's questline-gated, not a fixed date — it unlocks when you complete its rescue radar task (Search Mission: 1), so the exact timing varies by server. Treat "late S2" as your cue to start preparing. Confirm the exact trigger in your client.

How You Unlock It (the flow)

  1. Rescue / heal it. A radar questline appears — you send troops to gather "treatment supplies" and run a series of recovery search missions to restore the Overlord to strength. These recovery supply methods stop once it's fully healed, so run them while they're available.
  2. Build Bond Rating. Do team training to raise the bond between the Overlord and your heroes. When the Bond Rating hits the required threshold, the Overlord can join a squad in battle — and this also unlocks its Promotion and Skills systems.
  3. Promote + level skills. From there you raise its Promotion title/stars (which unlock higher skill stars) and level its skills — both on their own currencies (below).

Each Overlord sits in one squad at a time. Promotion raises its battlefield title (10 levels per title), which increases skill strength.

The "Armed Truck" IS the Overlord Expedition

The green Armed Truck that parks by your base is the entry to the Overlord Expedition — a combat stage-clear mode (with Auto Battle once you've cleared enough stages) that also pays hourly idle rewards. It's not a passive loot truck — it's one of your main sources of Overlord materials (Training Guidebooks, Overlord Skill Badges, Supply Chests). Push its stages for bigger hourly rewards.

What to Save

Start banking these before the Overlord unlocks so it's immediately useful, and keep feeding them after:

CurrencyUsed forWhere it comes from
Gorilla Overlord ShardsPromotion (its title/stars)Rescue questline, radar supply tasks, events
Universal Overlord ShardsPromotion — works on any OverlordEvents, VS Day 5 (Total Mobilisation), shops
Overlord Skill BadgesLevelling its skillsOverlord Expedition idle rewards, events
Overlord Bond BadgesRaising Bond Rating (the squad-join gate)Team training, VS Day 5, events
Training Guidebooks / CertificatesTeam training (bond)Overlord Expedition idle rewards, events

Key sources to work every day: the exclusive supply radar tasks (appear ~3×/day, up to 10), the Overlord Expedition idle rewards (auto-settle hourly, cap ~8 hours — collect before it caps), and VS Day 5 "Total Mobilisation", which scores Bond Badges and Universal Overlord Shards (see the Alliance Duel VS guide).

When to Start Saving

From mid-to-late Season 2, once the rescue questline is in sight: stop spending Universal Overlord Shards and Bond Badges on anything else, and bank Skill Badges and Training Guidebooks. The same logic as a UR-hero window (see What to Save & When) — prepare a season ahead so the Overlord lands strong instead of sitting at square one.

Exact Costs — Confirm In-Game

The precise numbers — shards to unlock, and shards per promotion stararen't surfaced in-game until you reach each stage (the same as HQ and gear upgrade costs). So this guide is exact on what to save and when, but the exact quantities are best confirmed in your own client. If you've reached these stages and can share the numbers, we'll fold them in.

The Second Overlord: Skybreaker (the Hawk)

There are two Overlords in total — the Gorilla is first, and the Skybreaker (a hawk, also called the Hawk Overlord — Meritt's companion from the desert season) is the second, unlocked later, around Season 3, on its own rescue questline. No third Overlord exists in the current game data.

It works exactly like the Gorilla — rescue → build Bond Rating → joins a squad → Promotion + Skills — with one difference that matters for saving:

  • It promotes with its own Skybreaker shards (separate from Gorilla shards), but
  • it shares the Universal Overlord Shards, Overlord Skill Badges and Bond Badges with the Gorilla.
Don't Dump Everything Into the Gorilla

Because Skybreaker draws from the same Universal shards and badges, keep a Universal-shard and Bond/Skill-Badge reserve rather than pouring 100% into the Gorilla. When Skybreaker's questline arrives you'll want those Universals ready — the same "start a season ahead" habit applies. Its exact costs are confirm-in-game too.

This is a live guide for a system the game data doesn't fully expose — mechanics are game-accurate, timing is questline-based, and exact costs are "confirm in-game." Tell us your real numbers and we'll make them exact.
