What Changes for F2P in Season 5

Season 5 (Wild West) drops you into the Golden Wasteland with a frontier economy built around CrystalGold, Bank Strongholds, and the Caffeine Institute. The single most important fact for a free-to-play player is this: everything seasonal here is temporary. The Coffee Factories, the Bars, the seasonal resources — they all vanish when the season ends. That makes spending real money to rush them a straight waste, and it makes free farming the only sensible approach.

Never Pay for Temporary Buildings

Every seasonal building and resource in Season 5 is removed at season end. Coffee Factories, Bars, CrystalGold, Coffee, Whiskey — none of it carries over. So build it all with farmed resources, never with money. A free player who farms steadily ends the season in the same seasonal position as someone who paid to rush — the spending simply evaporates.

Farm Free CrystalGold

CrystalGold is the season's economy, and it's abundant for free:

First-kill rewards on zombies and Doom Elites — the season's monster levels run high, so there are lots of first-kills to bank.
The High Noon minigame and season events.
The Trade Train (opens around Week 2) trades Whiskey for CrystalGold across warzones — though enemies can plunder it, so time your trades.

Spend CrystalGold in the CrystalGold Shop for real resources, or invest it in Bank Strongholds you can actually defend.

Bank Strongholds — Income You Can Lose

Bank Strongholds turn the season's strongholds into deposit accounts: park CrystalGold and earn interest over time. The catch is the whole point of the season's PvP — if your bank is captured, your deposits are plundered. For F2P that makes them a double-edged tool:

Deposit only what you can defend. Treat a bank you can't protect as a target painted on your back.
Use the safe windows — the Sunday Truce day and alliance protection times — to hold stacks through risk periods.
Start with low-level banks you can realistically hold rather than over-reaching for high-tier interest.

The Caffeine Institute Is Your Resistance Gate

Just like virus and curse resistance in earlier seasons, Season 5 has a resistance gate — fed by Coffee through the Caffeine Institute, which also unlocks Special Coffee buffs. High-level Bank Strongholds demand very high resistance to farm, so prioritise Caffeine Institute resistance over the flashy combat buffs. Coffee comes from Coffee Factories, built with farmed Coffee Beans.

The War-Day Rhythm

Season 5 changes how land works: cities can only be captured on Wednesdays and Saturdays, not daily, which slows everyone's land grab — F2P included, which is fine. Banks are takeable daily except the Sunday Truce. Note too that some alliance events (Alliance Exercise, Zombie Siege) are switched off this season, so don't plan your week around them. Stay Engineer early — its cost reductions apply to the seasonal resources you're farming.

What to Skip

Don't pay for the type-specific Bars (Tank/Pilot/Missileer buffs) unless you already have the matching meta heroes.
Don't over-deposit into banks you can't defend.
Don't expect a new troop tier — T11 remains the endgame goal; there's nothing above it this season.

Common F2P Mistakes

Paying to rush temporary buildings that vanish at season end.
Over-depositing in a bank you can't hold, then getting plundered.

Planning around disabled events (Alliance Exercise, Zombie Siege) that aren't running this season.
