What Changes for F2P in Season 6

Season 6 (Lost Rainforest) — fought across the Shadow Rainforest map — is, in two ways, the most F2P-relevant season yet. The good: Hero Awakening is unusually friendly to free players this season, with no paywall on the shards. The bad: City Destruction is permanent, which punishes careless free accounts harder than anyone. Play it right and an F2P account can come away with a genuinely awakened hero; play it carelessly and you can lose a city for good.

The season splits your warzone into two factions — Deepwood vs Wetland — locked for the whole season, with a neutral Great River clan holding the centre.

Awakening Is Free This Season — Use It

Season 6 has no Awakening Battle Pass, and the Awakening Shards are earnable for free — chiefly from the Hero Awakening Trial and from Global Expedition (the main free shard source). For an F2P account that already has a hero at 5★ with their Exclusive Weapon at Level 20+, this is a realistic shot at unlocking Awakening (the named-shard threshold) on a hero like Kimberly. Chasing a full 5-star Awakening (which needs many times more shards) is whale territory — unlock the first tier and stop there.

Note too that the season's Exclusive Weapon shards for its featured heroes appear in the regular Tavern recruitment, so save your Hero Recruitment Tickets for them rather than spending them earlier.

The Daily War Merit Engine

War Merit is the season's personal progression currency, earned from nearly all activity and driving your Faction War Rank (which pays daily stipends). The best free daily habit by a wide margin:

Send all of your Recon Planes for shield support every day — this alone is a large, reliable chunk of War Merit and keeps you in the higher Faction Rank tiers for their stipends.
Donate to Faction Technology and contribute to the Fishing Grounds — both feed faction-wide buffs and your War Merit without costing anything.
Take Doom Elite and high-level Doom Walker first-kills for the rest.

Survive Permanent City Destruction

A Destroyed City Does Not Come Back

In Season 6, a city that is destroyed is gone permanently — there is no rebuilding it. This is the mechanic most likely to wreck a free-to-play season, because you can't out-spend a mistake. Avoid early-season PvP, hold only cities you can genuinely defend, and lean hard on Alliance Pacts and faction reinforcement plus alliance safe-time windows. The flip side is a positive: a coordinated faction can carry an F2P player to rewards they could never earn solo — so being active in a strong faction is the best protection you have.

Resistance and Resources

The season's resistance gate runs through the Spore Factory → Fungus Institute chain (fed by Rainforest Mushrooms and Spore), which raises your Virus Resistance — prioritise it the same way you did virus, curse, and caffeine resistance in earlier seasons. As always, all seasonal buildings vanish at season end, so farm them rather than paying for them.

What to Skip

Don't chase a full 5-star Awakening as F2P — unlock the first tier and move on.
Don't fight early-season PvP when a lost city is permanent.
Don't build the type-specific Totems unless you already run the matching meta heroes.
Don't pay for temporary seasonal buildings.

Common F2P Mistakes

Skipping the daily Recon Plane War Merit — it's the single best free income of the season.
Losing a city to early PvP — permanent, and unrecoverable for a free account.
Over-investing toward a 5-star Awakening instead of stopping at the free unlock.
Playing solo in a season built around faction coordination.
Paying for buildings that are deleted at season end.
