What Warzone Expedition Is

Warzone Expedition is Season 6's cross-warzone PvP event. Starting in Week 3, your alliance can freely teleport between other warzones in the same season zone to invade their land and capture their strongholds — while simultaneously defending your own warzone against the same incursions.

It is fundamentally outposts-then-fortresses-then-cities: build a forward outpost in enemy territory, use it as a staging ground to capture fortresses, then declare war on cities. Everything else is execution discipline around those three steps.

This Is Not Global Expedition

Warzone Expedition is a completely different event from Global Expedition despite the similar name:

When and How It Starts

The Three Capture Targets

1. Outposts

The outpost is the gateway. Without a forward outpost in the enemy warzone, you cannot capture their fortresses or cities. The full mechanic per FirstFun's official article:

The First-Destruction Cliff

The drop from "rebuild immediately at 100%" to "wait 24 hours and rebuild at 50%" is brutal. A single lost outpost on day 2 of Expedition can lock you out of a contested warzone for a full day, then leave you with a half-strength rebuild that enemies can collapse again. Defending your first outpost is far more important than your second. Stack the strongest 5 members on it and don't let it fall.

2. Fortresses

Once your outpost is up, fortress captures begin. The mandated execution sequence:

5 strongest alliance members garrison the outpost — they hold the staging ground
Other members immediately attack the fortress — speed matters; longer windows expose the outpost to enemy counter-rallies
First 10 garrison members must stay until construction is complete — no swapping out, no leaving for point farming on the side
Successful defense refreshes the fortress protection stage — a successful defend = bonus protection time before it can be attacked again

The "4-Hour Casual Garrison" Myth

FirstFun's article explicitly calls out a player misconception: "there are 4 hours to slowly garrison." This is wrong. Completion must be swift, not slow-walked. If the first 10 garrison members drift off thinking they have time, the enemy will counter-rally the half-built fortress and you lose everything. Treat the garrison commitment as the entire 4-hour window, not "I'll check back in an hour."

3. Cities

After fortresses, cities. Cities are the highest-value target but the most restricted:

The warzone-shared 2-fortress cap is the bottleneck most alliances hit. Coordinate with allied alliances in your warzone so you're not all trying to claim fortresses on the same day — burn through the cap collectively and split rewards.

Outpost Placement Strategy

Outposts cannot be moved once placed, so placement decides whether your Expedition is efficient or a slog. The Zendesk article gives one specific tactical recommendation:

Two-Tile Base Spacing Around the Outpost

Your alliance members' bases should be positioned two tiles apart surrounding the outpost. This achieves two things:

Maximises land coverage — gives your alliance footprint in the enemy warzone without overlapping bases that waste tile space
Forces the enemy to march further — staggered bases mean enemy rallies have to traverse more tiles to engage anything, giving your defenders extra time to respond

A tightly clustered outpost ring is easier for the enemy to AoE-rally; a spaced two-tile ring forces multiple separate engagements.

Other placement principles:

Place outposts in Polluted Land (Black Zone) when possible — bases on non-polluted land cannot be attacked, but outposts in Black Zone enable your offensive operations
Place outposts near fortress clusters — minimise the march distance from "outpost garrison" to "fortress capture rally"
Place outposts in warzones where allied alliances coordinate with you — solo Expedition in a hostile warzone with no friendly forces nearby is a losing proposition

Defending Your Own Warzone

While you're invading other warzones, others are invading yours. Defense priorities:

Destroy Enemy Outposts Fast

The Primary Defensive Objective

Destroying an enemy outpost before they capture any fortresses stops their expansion cold. An outpost without fortresses is a beach-head with nothing on it — the enemy invested troops in placing and garrisoning but gained nothing. Conversely, letting an enemy outpost survive the first 24 hours means they're now capturing fortresses, declaring cities, and your warzone is being eaten from inside.

Fortress and City Defense

Fortresses: a successful defense refreshes the fortress's protection stage, buying you time. Allies should coordinate so each captured fortress gets at least one successful defense per day to lock in the protection refresh
Cities: protection refreshes through ally exchanges — don't try to solo-defend; lean on diplomatic exchanges to extend protection windows
Information sharing: any enemy outpost spotted in your warzone should be reported to the entire alliance immediately. Coordinated counter-rally happens faster than ad-hoc response

Execution Discipline — Garrison Rules

The single biggest source of Expedition losses is undisciplined garrisoning. FirstFun's article spends much of its tips section on this:

Do not randomly replace garrison members. Swapping people in and out slows construction (each swap interrupts the build progress) and makes the outpost vulnerable during the swap window
The first 10 fortress garrison members stay until completion. No exceptions. Other members can rotate outside for point farming, but the first 10 are locked in
Treat the build window as the actual commitment. "I'll check back in 4 hours" is exactly the mindset that loses outposts
Maintain unified command during cross-warzone defense. Distributed decision-making across multiple R4s leads to dispersion. One commander, one priority, one target at a time

Rotation and Point Farming

For members not in the first 10 garrison commitment, the recommended rotation:

Rotate outside the locked garrison to farm Expedition points elsewhere — attacking non-captured fortresses, killing roaming enemies, contributing to other alliance objectives
Don't return to the garrison rotation early — the first 10 are the first 10; secondary members should accept they're on the secondary track
Always have scouts watching enemy outposts and fortresses — early warning of enemy build-up is worth several point-farming runs

Common Expedition Mistakes

Placing outposts in a hostile warzone with no allied support — solo Expedition is suicide. Coordinate with at least one allied alliance in the target warzone
Letting the first outpost fall — the rebuild penalty (24h cooldown + 50% durability) is catastrophic. Defending the first outpost is your highest priority
Slow-walking garrison — believing the "4 hours to garrison" myth costs you the outpost. Pile bodies in, finish fast
Swapping garrison members during construction — every swap slows the build. Lock the first 10 in
Ignoring the daily fortress cap — 2 per warzone per day, shared. If your warzone burns 2 on a marginal fortress, you can't capture a better target the same day
Forgetting the Week 4 Wed/Sat restriction — from Week 4 onward, you only get 2 city declaration windows per week. Plan accordingly
Failing to refresh fortress protection — letting a captured fortress sit undefended after capture invites immediate counter-rally
Putting bases on Mud / Polluted Land voluntarily — non-polluted bases cannot be attacked at all. There is no reason to base on Mud unless your outpost operation specifically requires it
